Mapping Violence is currently exploring methods for digitally displaying histories of violence. One way to do this is with an interactive map. We are developing a map that will allow site users to read about individual events and search our records. Visitors will be able to read brief narratives of each event, access a list of primary and secondary sources available for further research, and see other related events. We are currently testing platforms to display the current record of racist violence. In future iterations, we will invite the public to interact with this memorial and publicly recognize the violence by sharing events documented in archives across the country and online.
The map displayed here is an early prototype with a selection of historical events displayed.
